POSITION SUMMARY:

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) seeks a qualified individual to serve as our Chief of Communications and Marketing (CCM). This position oversees communications, marketing, development and IT departments of the organization. The CCM provides thought leadership to the NCRC senior leadership on marketing and communications strategy. The Chief of Communications and Marketing is a member of the Senior Executive Team, and reports to the COO. This is a new position for the organization, and is located in Washington, DC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Communications, Marketing & Development Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic marketing communications plan to advance NCRC's brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its impact across key stakeholder audiences.
  • Create a public relations strategy that will allow NCRC leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media, funders and key influencers.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for NCRC content that advances the goals of the organization's strategic plan.
  • Develop foundation, government, corporate and individual donor relationship and engagement strategies for the organization, and operationalize them. 

Departmental Operations for Communications, Development and IT

  • Provide primary leadership in producing and disseminating compelling content in all forms and across platforms to advance NCRC's goals.
  • Lead and develop a team (currently composed of seven staff plus consultants) to support the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing/communications plan.
  • Oversee development of NCRC's print communications including the annual report, marketing collateral materials and electronic communications such as the website and new media; manage relationships with associated vendors.
  • Actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding NCRC's programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and provide professional development opportunities for staff.

Executive Management Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Executive Team, with enterprise wide management responsibilities, including financial management and control, adherence to policy and protocol, and ensuring appropriate records retention.
  • Promote technology utilization and knowledge management to improve the organization's effectiveness and efficiency; lead enterprise-wide conversation to a CRM and other relationship and workflow management platforms.
  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Chief Executive Officer and COO in their fundraising and relationship development efforts, and provides executive leadership for development efforts across the organization.
  • Lead enterprise'wide campaigns and initiatives to enhance internal and external; communications, marketing, branding.
  • Oversee budgeting for communications, marketing, development and IT.
  • Serve as communications advisor to NCRC leadership, including serving as a lead for crisis communications efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, public policy, or related field is required (or highly relevant field work); an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years experience in a senior management role and experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialists
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placement
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice.
